I have recently come across the book called Viva Mallorca by Peter Kerr and was immediately intrigued. We visited Mallorca last year, and I was hoping the book would bring back some of the memories I had created of this beautiful island during our visit.
Viva Mallorca is the third installment of the series called Snowball Oranges, which describes the life of the Kerr family. Although they loved Scotland, they wanted to live somewhere warmer and moved from Scotland to Mallorca. They were used to working on a farm, so to buy and try to run a small orange farm was an obvious option for them. This installment is about the autumn season on the farm, which is by locals called the “season of winter-spring.” As during any season, there is a lot of work to be done on the farm, but apart from that, the book also depicts the lifestyle of the Mallorcan people. We meet many unforgettable characters, both poor and wealthy and learn about the ups and downs of a farmer’s life.
I enjoyed reading the book immensely and would like to read the rest of the series, but it is not as easy to get in my country as I would have liked. I would recommend the book to anyone interested in the Mallorca island, but be careful! You might start longing to live on this beautiful island or at least to visit it 🙂
